OTHER QUESTIONS

How is Massage Therapy at CNMR different from any other massage?

CNMR incorporates several different methods to decrease pain and spasm in the muscle. Because of a physical therapist’s intense training in muscle physiology, anatomy, and neurology, we are better able to pinpoint the exact cause for your pain, and find an appropriate method to grant pain relief and inhibit the spasm response. Each patient is treated according to how their symptoms present. In some cases, deep work is required to release muscles that may be in spasm several layers down. In others, extremely light work may be indicated to decrease central nervous system activity first, and then a follow up of moderate work may be needed. Combined with therapeutic stretches and light to moderate exercise retraining, hands-on body work is an effective way to promote better musculoskeletal function while decreasing pain.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is an esoteric, energy-based system where a very light touch is used to provoke a deep awareness into the body’s natural state of healing. Emotion, spirit, and the physical body are blended in order to bring the body to a higher state of awareness. Through a complex series of gentle stretches to the tissues that line the cranium and spinal canal, a profound release is often found for those who are undergoing very serious physical and emotional stress. The procedure is soft and methodical, and completely uninvasive. Attention is paid to promoting a safe space for the patient to relax and allowing physical, spiritual, and emotional relief. Focusing into relaxation with deep breathing and craniosacral therapy can certainly help the patient get rid of past harms.

What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release (MFR) is the progressive elongation of the connective tissue surrounding muscles, otherwise known as fascia. Fascia is the dense network of web like bands that surround muscle and other organ tissues. This stretching is accomplished by the therapist using pressure to anchor muscles where restricted and then elongating the muscle fibers with gentle kneading. The therapist and patient collaborate to determine the appropriate depth of the stretch. Usually the therapist and patient can feel the muscle decrease in spasm and pain giving a feeling of relaxation or release.
